I'm a Senior Principal Applied Scientist at Zalandoin the Fulfilment Core department in Logistics. I first joined Zalando in 2015, then worked at GetYourGuideand as an independent consultant, before returning to Zalando in October 2023.

Before industry, I was a machine learning researcher. I did my Ph.D. in 2005 on approximation theory for the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the kernel matrix, and then worked as a PostDoc in the group of Klaus-Robert Müller at Fraunhofer FIRST and TU Berlin. Google Scholar has some of my publications. Ironically, ever since I left academia, my citations are on the rise.

From 2009 to 2014 I also had a startup-on-the-side together with Leo Jugel first called TWIMPACT, later streamdrill, where we built a real-time data analysis machine based on approximate counting algorithms. We have the core algorithms open sourced.
